Are we together now? Shared agency in multi-user games
نویسنده
چکیده
Educators have called for digitals games that large groups of 20-30 students can play together in classrooms, university seminars and professional training courses. Using shareable technologies, such as tablets and interactive tabletops, it is possible for games to engage large groups in face-to-face collaboration and discussion. But how can game user experience be evaluated in real-world, co-located learning, where engagement is mainly driven by social phenomena, such as peer teaching and discussion? In this extended abstract we argue that large-group, faceto-face gaming calls for a view on game user experience that takes the group, rather than the individual, as the unit of analysis. We indicate some methodological issues based on our own experience with designing simulation games for large co-located groups. Our aim is to invite a discussion of how the concept of shared agency can inform methodological approaches to evaluation. Author

The Interactive Storyteller - A multi-user tabletop board game interface to support social interaction in AI-based interactive storytelling
This thesis presents the Interactive Storyteller, a ‘story domain’-independent multi-user interface for AI-based interactive storytelling. Up until now, users of our storytelling framework, which uses the emergent narrative approach, had no influence on how the storyline developed. In the current research we aim to offer users a social setting for AI-based interactive storytelling. Existing AIb...

On-line multi-user virtual worlds have been used to create collaboration environments and shared virtual spaces to allow distributed teams to train, exercise or work together. Platforms such as Linden Lab's Second LifeTM or the open source community's OpenSimulator have been used to provide easily accessed facilities in which users are represented by avatars in a space designed to support their...
متن کاملCollective Programming: Making End-User Programming (More) Social
The do-it-yourself Web 2.0 culture is quickly creating and sharing more end-user produced content. Gradually moving from static content, such as pictures and text, to interactive content, such as end-user programmed games, the artifacts created and shared have become significantly more sophisticated. The next frontier to make end-user programming more social is to move beyond the current create...
متن کاملA Priority Updating Communications Model for Networked Virtual Environments
The popularity and success of networked virtual environments in applications such as massively multiplayer online games has led to the development of very large-scale multi-user networked virtual environments. Such systems create virtual worlds where thousands of users, who might be physically located all over the globe, can interact together through the shared virtual environment. In order for...
متن کاملGlobal Equilibria of Multi-leader Multi-follower Games with Shared Constraints
Multi-leader multi-follower games are a class of hierarchical games in which a collection of leaders compete in a Nash game constrained by the equilibrium conditions of another Nash game amongst the followers. Much of the extant research on this topic is either model specific or relies on weaker notions of equilibria. We observe that when this original game is modified to ensure that the leader...
